Join us for Scam Proof Your Life on November 21, 2019 at the Lakewood Cultural Center. Whether it’s on the phone or online, new technology and “spoofing” tools have made it easier than ever to scammers to pretend to be someone they’re not, such as the IRS or your bank or credit union. Their goal is simple – to fool you into handing over your hard earned money. But there is something you can do. 

Join consumer protection specialists from the AARP ElderWatch, Colorado Attorney General’s Office, and state and local agencies at this FREE event. Learn how to spot and avoid the latest scammer tactics like “neighbor spoofing,” social media scams, how scammers use financial products to commit fraud, and find out how you can Scam Proof Your Life. Lunch is included.

Scam Proof Your Life

The barrage of automated telephone solicitations or “robo calls” we get on our home and mobile phones has increased to nearly 50 billion calls a year, and it’s estimated that up to half of those calls are scams. AARP wants to help you stay on top of scams and empower consumers with information and education to help them take preventative actions against scams and frauds.

Parking:

Free, well-lit parking is available adjacent to the west side of the Lakewood Cultural Center and in the parking garage below. Underground parking is accessed from S. Allison Parkway or W. Virginia Avenue.

 

Accessibility:

The facility is wheelchair accessible, although there is a limited number of wheelchair accessible seats. Please plan to arrive early if you require accessible seating.
